In 'the old days' a photographer took a photo and sent the negative off to the lab for printing. It was up to the lab technician to 'polish' the image and return a beautiful print to the photographer. These days, most photographers do their own editing using Photoshop or other image editing software Polishing an image is essential to a beautiful finished piece, and is an involved process that most people are unaware has even happened. Editing is the most time consuming part of the photography process, taking 8 hours or more for each hour of shooting. Here's just a small example of a typical Pound Puppy session edit. Pound Puppy sessions take even more time than normal because of the leashes, people, etc. that have to be removed from each image.
