Joan Headley of St. Louis, Missouri, talks about the grandmother of the independent living movement, Gini Laurie, and the newsletter she created to strengthen the community of polio survivors. Headley acquired polio at fifteen months; she following Laurie as executive director of Post-Polio Health International, the current incarnation of the Rehabilitation Gazette. She currently serves as Chair of the Board of Paraquad, Inc., Saint Louis' independent living center. This is #23 out of more than 1,000 interviews that "It's Our Story" has collected in an effort to free the voices of the disability community.
